    Audiolab 6000A

    The sound of science
    Outwardly, the 6000A bears strong resemblance to the 8300A with its rotary controls and large, central OLED display. Unlike its costlier, analogue-only sibling, it incorporates high-quality D/A conversion, enabling digital sources to be connected directly without an external DAC. It supplies four digital inputs, three line-level analogue inputs, an input for a turntable, wireless connectivity via Bluetooth and a dedicated headphone amp, in addition to its ability when driving loudspeakers.

    Digital circuitry
    Much effort has been made to ensure the 6000A’s digital circuitry delivers the level of quality one might expect of a high-performance standalone DAC. As ever, Audiolab has turned to the ES9018 Sabre32 Reference chip family to perform D/A conversion, utilising ESS Technology’s 32-bit HyperStream architecture and Time Domain Jitter Eliminator to deliver ultra-low noise and high dynamic range.

    No company knows more about making the most of this technically excellent, but challenging, DAC technology than Audiolab. If the circuitry that surrounds the ES9018 is not of sufficient standard, the resulting sound can seem a little cold and hard; treat it right, however, and the level of musical expression that this chip digs from the digital signal is captivating. Audiolab’s original, universally acclaimed M-DAC was one of the first home audio components to incorporate an ES9018 chip back in 2011, and the company has been honing its implementation ever since.

    circuitry
    The 6000A’s discrete Class AB power amp stage delivers 50W per channel into eight ohms, with a maximum current delivery of 9 Amps into difficult loads. The output stage of the discrete power amp circuits uses a CFB (Complementary Feedback) topology, ensuring superior linearity and excellent thermal stability, as the idle current is kept independent of the temperature of the output transistors.
    A substantial 200VA toroidal transformer, followed by 4x15000uF reservoir capacity (60000uF in total), helps the amp to maintain firm control of the music whilst enabling excellent dynamic range.

    The preamp section is kept as simple as possible to maintain signal purity, with line input signals passing to a precision analogue volume stage. The latter covers the range from -80dB to +8dB in steps of 2dB and 1dB (step resolution increases with volume position). Much effort has gone into the physical layout of the 6000A’s circuitry, protecting the sensitive preamp section from noise interference. This, plus the use of independent low-noise power supplies for critical stages, helps to deliver a performance that rivals significantly more expensive analogue amplifiers, even before taking the 6000A’s impressive digital circuitry into account.

    Turntables and headphones
    In recognition of the recent vinyl revival, Audiolab has included a phono stage for moving magnet phono cartridges – a high-quality, low-noise, JFET-based circuit with precise RIAA equalisation.

    Similarly, an increasing number of people are using headphones for music listening, so Audiolab has incorporated a dedicated headphone amp with current-feedback circuitry.

    Offering precise imaging and intimate detailing, the F500 is ideal for small to medium listening rooms. Incorporating a down-firing port, bass energy is evenly dissipated into the room with our BassTraxTM Tractrix diffuser system.

    The luxuriously finished, contemporary styled cabinet is available in a choice of dark oak or black oak real wood veneer and piano gloss black or white. Enhancing its aesthetic appeal, it has a gently curved front and rear baffle which additionally benefits the acoustic performance by reducing colouration effects.

    The F500 series is based around an IsoFlareTM point source drive unit; technology which our Technical Director, Dr. Paul Mills, has had considerable experience with. Our technical team, responsible for the audio performance and mechanical build of this type of driver, have many decades of experience between them. Combining Fyne Audio’s IsoFlareTM driver into a rigid cabinet, with a cleverly designed porting system, ensures optimal in-room performance.

    Crossover
    Low-loss, laminated core inductors and audiophile-grade polypropylene capacitors are used exclusively throughout the F500 series crossovers. The result is an exceptionally clean signal path and very low crossover losses, ensuring the very best in detail resolution and musical communication.

    Home Theatre
    The F500 range is as impressive with movies as it is music. FYNE AUDIO’s point source driver technology is ideal for articulating the finest of movie detail with pin-point accuracy. High efficiency and high-power handling means the F500 series delivers an incredibly dynamic and lifelike performance whether you are listening to DTS Master Audio or Dolby True HD.

    Point Source Technology
    Point source driver technology is not new to Fyne Audio. Our technical team, responsible for the audio performance and mechanical build of the driver, have many decades of experience between them. Our proprietary IsoFlareTM design ensures constant directivity of the wave front generated,
    providing outstanding stereo imaging, even off axis. Furthermore, a smooth and extended response is delivered thanks to the highly rigid titanium high frequency diaphragm which pushes the break up mode well above the level of human hearing.

    Performance
    To fully optimise the driver’s performance, every aspect of the meticulous design has been considered. A vented rear chamber in the Neodymium HF magnet places low frequency resonance well below crossover region. The unique geometry of the high frequency unit’s waveguide provides a flat frequency response and avoids internal reflections.

    To eliminate unwanted vibrations, which would be detrimental to the sound quality, both the point source driver and the supplementary low frequency driver fitted to the floor standing models, are built around a rigid cast aluminium chassis. Multifibre paper cones are used providing natural sounding mid-range and clean transient behaviour. Cone energy is then very effectively terminated using a fluted rubber surround.

    A 125mm (5″) IsoFlareTM driver is at the heart of the F500C, delivering pin-point accuracy when the movie action is taking place centre stage. Providing additional low frequency extension and impact, the IsoFlareTM driver is accompanied by two 125mm (5″) bass drivers.

    Fyne Audio F3-12 Subwoofer

    The heavily built, high rigidity MDF cabinet features a large down firing port, compliant floor coupling mounts and a raft of features including phase control, a 12V trigger, auto-sensing power on, and individual LFE/RCA inputs and filtering. The result is breath-taking bass performance as low as 28Hz, making the F3-12 the ideal super-sub for music and movies alike.

    CABINET
    From the floor up, the F3 Series subwoofer cabinets bristle with unique design features. The large, compliant feet better couple the subwoofer to the floor, offering a more consistent room interface while being kinder to solid floor surfaces. The F3 Series’ large diameter port uses a mathematical-derived flare profile at both ends for extremely low turbulence. The cabinets are built from heavyweight and braced MDF panels to reduce colouration and finished in a subtle dark oak detail to ensure they are heard and felt, yet not seen.

    CONTROL
    The F3 Series cutting edge electronics and DSP engine have enabled control features normally only found in much more expensive subwoofers. The DSP controls both LFE input and stereo input 85Hz low pass filters, automatic dynamic range management and overload protection, as well as enabling Fyne’s Bass Boost function. Engaging the Bass Boost switch delivers a +3dB lift through critical movie LFE frequencies to deliver real cinema movie performance in the home. For ease of integration with the widest range of AV systems, F3 Series subwoofers offer continuous or signal sensing auto power on modes, a 12V trigger and phase reverse switch.

    DRIVER TECHNOLOGY
    Fyne’s front mounted F3 Series drivers deliver the ultimate in fast transient attack to make gun-shots and other dynamic low frequency effects come alive. The cone material is formed with a unique mix of fibres to create a light, stiff and near perfect rigid diaphragm for supremely accurate bass. Fyne’s soft rubber roll surround and deep coil and motor assembly give the cone extensive excursion and high-power handling. The result is a range of affordable subwoofers with stunning dynamics and the capability to produce low frequencies down to a class-leading 30Hz (F3-12).

    AMPLIFIER
    Direct Digital Amplification (DDX®) is a patented, all-digital, high-efficiency amplifier technology designed specifically for multimedia applications. DDX is similar to a standard Class-D digital amplifier but improves upon the design with higher power, better efficiency, lower RFI output and enhanced sonic characteristics. The result is a clean, muscular sounding amplifier with plenty of headroom for the biggest explosions and vanishingly low distortion right down to the F3 Series’ lowest operating frequencies.
