Peter Tyson has spent the last six decades growing and evolving as a family-run business specialising in high-quality audio and visual solutions. Our Story
Six Decades of Audio Excellence
The move into audio
With growing demand for hi-fi and sound systems, Peter Tyson expanded into audio sales, solidifying its position as a trusted name in home entertainment. Brands like Panasonic, Technics, and other big Japanese names were incredibly popular at the time.
First dedicated store and repair centre
The company opened its first dedicated store and repair centre on Abbey Street, the first of its kind in Carlisle. This store opening marked a new chapter of growth and specialisation in high-quality service. It also provided Peter Tyson with a platform to work with top-end British hi-fi brands, including Arcam and Linn.
A family legacy continues
The second generation of the Tyson family joined the business, bringing new ideas while maintaining the strong family values that built the company's reputation. “There's so many people that make up this business that are a part of the furniture, a part of the family. Expanding into new locations
The Newcastle store opened, followed shortly by the acquisition of the Workington store, widening the company's reach across the region and allowing us to further share our expertise and commitment to quality service.
Milestone in online success
The Peter Tyson website reached £1 million in annual sales, reflecting the company's success in online retail. “Whether you're visiting us because you live locally to our Carlisle, Workington, or Newcastle branches or you're hundreds of miles away purchasing something online, the feeling from buying from Peter Tyson should be exactly the same.” - Luke Tyson.
Bigger and better in Newcastle
Due to continued growth, the Newcastle store relocated to a larger premises to better serve the increasing number of customers. Investment continued to further develop the store and its bespoke demo rooms.
Major expansion
Peter Tyson moved into a new 30,000-square-foot retail store and distribution centre in Carlisle, boosting its capacity and service capabilities.
A record-breaking year
The company celebrated its most successful year to date, achieving record sales and further solidifying its position as an industry leader. “We're only getting started. We have all the expertise.
