Linn Organik DAC Upgrade for Akubarik Loudspeakers

We have been waxing lyrical about Linn’s Organik DAC architecture since it debuted in the sublime next-generation Klimax DSM in 2021.

Organik elevates audio performance to breathtaking levels. And now, Linn Akubarik owners can reach those heights too, with a retrofittable Organik DAC upgrade.

This is a Linn factory upgrade: your Akubarik speaker modules are returned to Linn HQ. We will securely remove, transport and re-install them once Linn has worked its ‘majik’, complete with a new, 5-year Linn warranty on the modules and drive units.

Et voila, your Akubariks are Organik and trust us, you are in for a treat!

Organik DAC upgrade is £7,000 and is for Exakt Integrated Akubariks only.

If you have Aktiv, non-Exakt Akubariks, there is a limited opportunity to upgrade directly to Organik Exakt, after which Aktiv to Exakt upgrade will no longer be available.

Whilst this is a new opportunity, this major upgrade is already available for other Linn products, namely:

Klimax 350 loudspeakers
Klimax Exaktbox
Any Selekt DSM
All variants of Klimax DS and DSM – even the very first model manufactured in 2007.

Designed and built entirely from scratch by Linn engineers, Organik DAC gives Linn complete control over the audio signal chain. It eliminates reliance on ‘off the shelf’ 3rd party chip design, meaning Linn also controls potential supply issues and future changes. Organik is the fundamental technology driving the plethora of rave reviews for both Klimax DSM and Linn’s reference 360 Exakt Integrated loudspeakers.

The tech

Hypothetically superior discrete digital-to-analogue conversion methods have existed for some time. One of those replaces conventional theory of closely-matched components with an innovative configuration based in the time domain. This new blueprint became viable for Linn with FPGA processors advances alongside Linn’s own £1.2m+ of investment in PCB capability.

The key to Organik is its unique combination of:

Modulation method – Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) Delta-Sigma
Conversion stage – Discrete Analog Finite Impulse Response (AFIR)
Implementation – Ultra-stable power, precision clocking, and expert PCB design
The combination of PWM modulator and AFIR conversion stage is immune to common problems of other discrete designs, where small errors in switching times or resistor values can generate distortion.

Physical layout of the circuit board is also critical. Organik uses an 8-layer circuit board, facilitating optimal delivery of power and clocks to the DAC. Power is generated by a discrete regulator and delivered to the conversion stage using multiple internal power planes. Clock traces are matched to within fractions of a mm to ensure every part of the DAC receives its clock at precisely the same time. These elements together create an analogue signal with incredibly low noise and distortion levels —far beneath anything Linn has achieved before.

And that, in a nutshell, is what makes the music sound so much better.

Linn has a long and successful history of releasing upgrades for its products and systems. Organik may just be the best yet.
