Cyrus
Cyrus
Cyrus was born in 1984, spun off from British loudspeaker manufacturer Mission, with Peter Bartlett — hired in from NAD — brought on to lead the new venture. Its very first product, the Cyrus One, became an instant icon: a small, striking, half-width integrated amplifier that captured the minimalist spirit of 1980s hi-fi perfectly, dared to look different in a crowded market, and won over listeners with genuinely class-leading sound. The higher-specification Cyrus Two that followed found similar success further up the market.
That distinctive half-width form factor became a Cyrus signature for decades, and in 2005 Peter Bartlett led a management buyout, keeping the brand independently owned. Cyrus has continued to innovate steadily ever since — most recently with its 40 Series and, for the first time in the company's history, a move into full-width products with the 2025 80 Series, built around advanced ESS DAC chipsets capable of handling high-resolution PCM and DSD files.
Still headquartered in Huntingdon, Cambridgeshire, and still designed by its own in-house R&D team, Cyrus is proud to be one of the very few remaining independent British hi-fi brands, manufacturing in partnership with UK-based SMS Electronics. Four decades on, the goal hasn't changed: build equipment precise enough to disappear, so all that's left is the music.
