Prime Tower
Reference-Level Sound from a Refined Floorstanding Design
The SVS Prime Tower is a high-performance floorstanding loudspeaker designed to bring detailed, dynamic and immersive sound to both high-fidelity music systems and home cinema setups. Combining sophisticated driver technology, a carefully engineered cabinet and SVS's SoundMatch 3.5-way crossover, the Prime Tower delivers an expansive soundstage, precise imaging and powerful low-frequency reproduction without compromising clarity. Its 30Hz to 25kHz frequency response also gives it the bandwidth needed to reproduce everything from delicate high-frequency detail to deep, controlled bass.
Drawing on engineering principles developed for SVS's higher-end Ultra Series, the Prime Tower has been designed to offer an engaging and highly revealing listening experience. Voices and instruments are presented with impressive definition, while demanding music and movie soundtracks benefit from the speaker's ability to combine speed, control and substantial dynamic impact. The result is a floorstanding speaker that can provide an authoritative full-range presentation while remaining refined enough for detailed two-channel listening.
Advanced Three-Way Driver Array
At the heart of the Prime Tower is a carefully configured driver array consisting of a 1-inch aluminium dome tweeter, a dedicated 4.5-inch midrange driver and two 6.5-inch woofers. Each driver has been developed with a specific role within the overall design, allowing the speaker to deliver a coherent and balanced presentation across the full frequency range.
The 1-inch aluminium dome tweeter has been engineered for fast transient response and clear high-frequency reproduction. An FEA-optimised diffuser helps control the tweeter's acoustic behaviour, contributing to the Prime Tower's open and detailed treble response. This gives the speaker an airy presentation, with vocals, dialogue and high-frequency musical information reproduced with clarity even when the system is being driven at higher listening levels.
The 4.5-inch polypropylene midrange driver is housed within its own dedicated sealed enclosure. Isolating the midrange in this way helps prevent unwanted interaction with the woofers and shifts cabinet standing waves away from the driver's operating range. The result is a clean and controlled midband that allows vocals, acoustic instruments and dialogue to retain their natural character without unwanted colouration.
For low-frequency reproduction, the Prime Tower uses two long-stroke 6.5-inch polypropylene woofers. Their combination of rigid, lightweight cones, substantial motor systems and carefully controlled suspension allows the speakers to produce deep bass with both authority and accuracy. Separate internal woofer compartments and individually optimised port tuning further improve low-frequency control, helping the Prime Tower deliver bass that is powerful enough to add impact to film soundtracks while remaining articulate enough for music.
SoundMatch 3.5-Way Crossover
A major part of the Prime Tower's performance comes from its SoundMatch 3.5-way crossover. Rather than treating the three driver sections as a conventional three-way arrangement, SVS has carefully tailored the crossover points so that each woofer operates within an optimised frequency range.
The tapered woofer array helps reduce vertical-axis lobing and minimises the potential for unwanted beaming as the sound transitions towards the midrange. The top woofer operates alongside the midrange at lower frequencies, while the bottom woofer is given its own low-pass filter. This arrangement helps create a broad listening window while maintaining precise integration between the drivers.
The crossover uses premium-grade capacitors, air-core inductors and heavy-trace printed circuit boards. The midrange-to-tweeter crossover is set at 2.1kHz, while the top woofer transitions to the midrange at 350Hz and the lower woofer operates below 165Hz. This carefully calibrated approach helps the Prime Tower maintain a consistent tonal balance from its deepest bass through to its highest frequencies.
Wide Soundstage and Precise Imaging
The Prime Tower has been designed to produce a large and stable soundstage with accurate placement of individual voices and instruments. Its crossover design and driver arrangement work together to create a listening experience that remains coherent across a broad area of the room, rather than concentrating the optimum performance into a narrow listening position.
This makes the Prime Tower particularly well suited to both dedicated stereo listening and home cinema. In a two-channel system, the speakers can create a convincing sense of depth and separation, helping recordings feel spacious and engaging. In a surround sound system, their combination of wide-band response and dynamic capability allows them to reproduce music, dialogue and effects with a strong sense of scale.
Engineered Cabinet Construction
The Prime Tower's cabinet has been developed to provide a rigid and acoustically controlled platform for its drivers. Internal bracing and finite element analysis have been used to minimise unwanted cabinet resonances, while the dedicated sealed midrange enclosure and separate woofer chambers help prevent internal energy from interfering with the drivers.
The front baffle features chamfered edges to reduce diffraction, while the drivers are flush-mounted to further improve acoustic behaviour. Together, these details help the Prime Tower produce cleaner imaging and more consistent high-frequency response, while giving the speaker a modern and purposeful appearance.
The rear of the cabinet incorporates two wide-flared, rear-firing ports. These are individually tuned to work with the woofer enclosures, allowing the Prime Tower to extend its bass response without relying solely on the drivers themselves. The result is a rated frequency response of 30Hz to 25kHz within ±3dB.
Designed for Music and Home Cinema
With its combination of deep bass extension, detailed midrange reproduction and crisp high frequencies, the Prime Tower is equally suited to serious music listening and cinematic entertainment. Its high dynamic capability allows it to respond convincingly to demanding musical passages, while the dual woofers provide the scale required for action-packed film soundtracks and low-frequency effects.
The speaker's nominal 8-ohm impedance and 87dB sensitivity make it suitable for integration with a wide range of quality amplification. SVS recommends amplification between 20 and 250 watts, giving the Prime Tower considerable flexibility when building a stereo or home cinema system.
Premium Finish and Practical Installation
Despite its substantial acoustic capabilities, the Prime Tower maintains a relatively streamlined floorstanding profile. It measures approximately 930mm high, 203mm wide and 295mm deep, including its grille and feet, allowing it to deliver a substantial full-range sound without becoming visually overwhelming within the room. The cabinet is available in Piano Gloss Black and Premium Black Ash finishes, providing options for both contemporary and more traditional interiors.
A removable acoustically transparent cloth grille provides protection for the drivers while allowing the speaker to maintain its clean appearance. For more critical listening, the grille can be removed to expose the carefully integrated driver array. Adjustable spiked metal feet are included for secure positioning and levelling, with elastomer bumper feet also supplied for installations where a more floor-friendly contact point is preferred.
A Versatile High-Performance Tower Speaker
The SVS Prime Tower combines sophisticated acoustic engineering with a versatile floorstanding format. Its dedicated midrange enclosure, dual 6.5-inch woofers, aluminium dome tweeter and SoundMatch 3.5-way crossover work together to produce a presentation that is detailed, spacious and dynamically capable.
Whether used as the foundation of a high-quality stereo system or as the main front speakers in a home cinema, the Prime Tower is engineered to reveal fine detail while retaining the scale and impact required for demanding recordings and soundtracks. With its carefully controlled cabinet, wide frequency response and precision crossover design, it provides an accomplished full-range loudspeaker solution for listeners seeking high-end performance from a relatively compact floorstanding design.
