Emotiva

Emotiva was founded in Franklin, Tennessee, by Dan Laufman, a lifelong audiophile and electrical engineer who spent years designing OEM audio electronics for other companies — including work alongside industry pioneers like Infinity's Arnie Nudell. After years of building high-end gear that carried other brands' names, Laufman set out to create something of his own: genuinely high-performance audio electronics, sold directly to the people who'd use them. He named the company Emotiva, from the Italian word for "emotional" — a nod to the passion he'd rediscovered in building gear without compromise.

That direct-to-consumer model became Emotiva's defining idea. By selling straight from the factory rather than through layers of distributors and retailers, Emotiva could offer genuinely high-end amplifiers, preamps, processors, DACs, and home theatre electronics at prices that undercut the traditional retail model entirely — all backed by an unusually generous five-year transferable warranty and a 30-day in-home trial. Early standouts like the 2005 DMC-1 preamp-processor set the tone for a lineup that's since grown to include robust power amps, AV processors, and full home theatre ecosystems, all still built around the same philosophy.

Still based in Franklin, Tennessee, Emotiva has earned a genuinely loyal following among audiophiles and home theater enthusiasts who want performance that rivals far pricier competitors — proof that cutting out the middleman doesn't mean cutting corners.
