Grell Audio

Grell Audio was founded in 2020 by Axel Grell, a headphone engineer whose work over more than three decades helped define what a truly world-class headphone could sound like. As chief engineer at Sennheiser, Axel was the mind behind some of the most celebrated headphones in audio history, including the HD 580 and the reference-setting HD 800 — designs that earned him a devoted following among audiophiles long before he launched a brand of his own.

With Grell, Axel set out to bring that same uncompromising engineering approach directly to listeners, built around a clear philosophy: create the best possible acoustic experience for the money, at every price point, rather than only at the very top of the market. The brand's debut products, including the TWS/1 true wireless earphones developed in partnership with Drop, brought genuinely audiophile-grade sound to a more accessible, direct-to-consumer format, while the OAE-1 and OAE-2 open-back headphones introduced Grell's own Front-sided Sound Field Modulation technology — an innovative approach to widening soundstage and reducing internal distortion.

Based near Hanover, Germany, and still guided personally by Axel Grell, the brand builds its headphones with a modular, repairable design and eco-conscious manufacturing in mind. It's a rare thing in audio: a brand built entirely around one engineer's life's work, now finally released from the constraints of designing for someone else's name.
