Hisense
Hisense's origins trace back to September 1969, when the Qingdao No. 2 Radio Factory was established in the Chinese coastal city of Qingdao as a small semiconductor radio manufacturer. Within a year, the factory had produced the first 14-inch electronic tube television set in Shandong Province — an early milestone in what would become a remarkable, decades-long journey into consumer electronics.
Through the 1970s, 80s, and 90s, the company grew steadily, developing China's first 9-inch all-plastic transistor television, introducing frequency conversion technology to the Chinese market, and eventually adopting the Hisense name and a unified visual identity that carried the brand into international markets. Along the way, Hisense expanded well beyond television, moving into air conditioning, telecommunications, and home appliances, while continuing to invest heavily in its own display and imaging technology — including developing the world's first 100-inch ultra-short-throw laser television.
Today Hisense is a genuinely global name, ranked among the world's leading television brands and operating research and development centres and manufacturing facilities across China, Europe, North America, and South Africa, including a strategic partnership with MIT Media Lab. More than five decades after a dozen employees built radios in a small Qingdao workshop, Hisense's mission remains the same: making the latest technology accessible, affordable, and genuinely useful in everyday life.
