Kenwood Audio
Kenwood - Listen to the Future
Kenwood's story begins in Nagano Prefecture, Japan, in 1946, when the company was founded as Kasuga Radio Co., Ltd., focused on developing and producing radio sets during the early years of Japan's postwar consumer electronics boom. Rapid demand led to a new mass-production facility in Tokyo by 1955, and in 1960 the company was renamed Trio Corporation, marking its entry into amateur radio equipment.
The Kenwood name itself was created for the American market by Bill Kasuga, combining "Ken" — already familiar and trusted through brands like Kenmore — with "Wood," a nod to durability and a subtle echo of Hollywood, California. That international identity helped the brand grow into one of Japan's most successful consumer electronics companies, producing acclaimed amplifiers, receivers, cassette decks, and home and car audio systems that became staples in households worldwide.
Now part of JVCKenwood Corporation, Kenwood continues to build home audio, car audio, and communications equipment guided by a straightforward promise: Listen to the Future.
