km5 Inc. was founded in Japan in 2021 around a distinctly different idea about what listening to music could mean. The team behind km5 felt that convenience and high-resolution sound quality had become treated as the only "correct" way to enjoy music — and wanted to open up more varied, tactile ways for people to connect with it, beyond simply hearing it.

That philosophy shows directly in km5's product design. The Instant Disc Audio Cp1 and Cp2 reimagine the CD player as something you display and interact with as much as listen to — designed to be shown off on a shelf or handled like a physical object, in an era when most music has become entirely invisible. The Lightwear Headphones Hp1 apply that same thinking to headphones, prioritising a genuinely light, easy-to-wear design for effortless everyday listening.

km5's distinctive, design-forward approach has led to eye-catching collaborations, including special editions with Kojima Productions' Death Stranding 2, the film Wicked, and the band Dreams Come True. It's a young brand built on a clear conviction: that music deserves more ways to be enjoyed than just pressing play — Music In Every Way.
