Meridian

Meridian Audio was founded in 1977 in Huntingdon, Cambridgeshire, by Bob Stuart and celebrated industrial designer Allen Boothroyd, initially trading as Boothroyd-Stuart before adopting the Meridian name in 1985 with the launch of the company's first CD player. From the very beginning, Meridian set out with a clear mission: put the listener at the heart of every recorded performance, and never stop pushing the boundaries of what sound reproduction could achieve.

That mission produced a genuinely remarkable run of world-first innovations: the first fully integrated active loudspeaker, combining amplification directly inside the cabinet; England's first CD player; the first digital surround sound processor; and, in 1998, Meridian Lossless Packing, the lossless compression technology adopted as part of the official DVD-Audio standard. Bob Stuart went on to develop Master Quality Authenticated (MQA) in 2014, extending Meridian's digital audio expertise even further.

Still designed, engineered, and hand-built entirely at its Huntingdon headquarters, and now supplying premium audio systems to luxury automotive brands including Land Rover and Jaguar, Meridian continues to live up to its own description of itself: British Audio Technology Pioneers.
