Onkyo

Onkyo's story begins in 1946 in Osaka, Japan, when Takeshi Godai — who'd grown up helping out in his family's bicycle shop before gaining engineering experience at Matsushita Electric (now Panasonic) — set out to build his own legacy in post-war Japan. He founded Osaka Denki Onkyo K.K. with a clear ambition: create genuinely high-quality, Japanese-crafted audio equipment. The name Onkyo, meaning "sound harmony," reflected that founding commitment from the very start.

That commitment produced decades of respected hi-fi engineering, from early cartridges and speaker diffusers through to the influential Integra amplifier line, introduced in 1969, which established Onkyo as a serious contender in high-fidelity electronics. In 1993, Onkyo became one of the first brands to launch a THX-certified consumer AV receiver, cementing its reputation as a genuine innovator in home theatre sound.

Now operating as part of Premium Audio Company alongside fellow legacy brands Pioneer and Integra, Onkyo continues to build AV receivers, hi-fi components, and home theatre systems guided by its renewed mission to be "At The Heart of Entertainment" — carrying forward Takeshi Godai's original vision of sound harmony into a new generation of listeners.
