Optoma
Optoma was founded in 2002 in Taiwan as a subsidiary of Coretronic Corporation, with a clear ambition from day one: bring cutting-edge, large-display projection technology to home entertainment at a time when high-quality projectors were still very much a niche product. Under general manager Telly Kuo, the young company quickly built momentum, and founder SY Chen famously carried a single projector to Europe to introduce Optoma's technology to the EMEA market in person — a hands-on, relationship-first approach that's remained part of the company's culture ever since.
That early ambition produced a genuine run of projection firsts: the world's first 65-inch DLP projection television in 2003, which won a CES Innovations Award, and the world's first Pico projector, the PK101, which went on to win Time Magazine's Product of the Year in 2008. Optoma expanded into audio in 2014 with the acquisition of acclaimed Californian brand NuForce, bringing genuinely audiophile-grade DACs and headphone amplifiers into the Optoma family.
Now operating across more than 150 countries with regional headquarters spanning Europe, North America, Asia-Pacific, and China, Optoma has grown into one of the world's leading 4K UHD projector and DLP brands — still guided by the same founding purpose of using visual technology to help people experience more.
