Roberts Radio - Never Compromise on Quality

Roberts Radio was founded in 1932 in London by two friends, Harry Roberts and Leslie Bidmead, who financed the down payment on their small Soho factory by selling Bidmead's motorbike. Working from just a couple of rooms with £50 of start-up capital, the pair built radios to order — starting at around three a week — with Harry's sales skills helping the young company win over customers right from the start.

That "never compromise on quality" philosophy carried Roberts through nearly a century of British radio history: production continuing through the Second World War from relocated premises in Surrey, a Royal Warrant awarded in 1955 recognising Roberts Radio as supplier to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, and the beloved Revival radio, whose appearance in a celebrated 1989 Martini advert sparked a wave of renewed interest that the company says it has "never looked back" from since.

Now based in Chertsey, Surrey, under the GlenDimplex Group, Roberts Radio continues to build DAB, internet, and Bluetooth radios that carry forward the same retro design cues and attention to detail that first won over listeners nearly a century ago — proof that a genuinely well-made radio never really goes out of style.
