Solidsteel was founded in 1990 in Pescara, Italy, by Moreno Conti, a music enthusiast whose family background in precision metalworking — including crafting silencers for Ducati motorcycles — gave him exactly the skills needed to solve a problem he cared about personally. After discovering the British brand Target Audio through UK hi-fi magazines and becoming fascinated with the principles of cones, spikes, and vibration damping, Conti spent 1988 and 1989 developing his own prototype hi-fi racks, testing them among audiophile friends before officially launching Solidsteel in 1990.

Rather than simply following the British approach that had inspired him, Conti set out to build something genuinely different, applying his own engineering background to hand-welded racks with invisible seams, premium wooden shelves, and vibration-damping spikes — filling a gap that, at the time, didn't really exist commercially in Italy. With support from his wife Dora Bellini and distributor Audiogamma, the brand quickly became Italy's pioneering specialist in dedicated audio furniture.
