Volumio

Volumio began in December 2013, not as a company but as a hobby project started by Michelangelo Guarise, a passionate music enthusiast in Florence, Italy. What began as a small piece of software for streaming and managing digital music libraries quickly found a devoted community, and by January 2015, Volumio had grown into a genuine company, crossing 100,000 app installations within two years.

The turning point came in 2020, when Volumio's ambition expanded beyond software alone. Guarise and his team recognised that to make truly great sound accessible, they needed to engineer the hardware, the operating system, and the design together as one — and Volumio became a full vertical audio company, designing and building award-winning streamers and DACs in Florence, starting with the acclaimed Primo in 2018. That decision paid off: Volumio's Primo and Rivo streamers each went on to win EISA Awards as the world's Best Digital Source, and the brand added an iF Design Award in 2024.

Today Volumio software runs on more than 800,000 active devices worldwide and powers products from over 30 hardware brands, while the company's next chapter — opening its platform to other audio makers and applying AI to music discovery through its CORRD venture — carries forward the same conviction that's guided Volumio since a hobby project in 2013: that technology and Italian craft belong together.
