Record Weights
Why Choose a Record Weight or Clamp?
Even a record that appears perfectly flat can have subtle irregularities or a slight warp that affects how well it makes contact with the turntable platter beneath it. Record weights and clamps are designed to address this, adding downward pressure at the centre of the record to improve coupling between the vinyl and platter, reducing resonance and minor vibration that can otherwise subtly affect sound quality.
The result is often a more stable, focused sound with improved bass definition, since better contact between the record and platter reduces unwanted micro-vibrations that can blur fine detail. Record weights and clamps are particularly beneficial on turntables with a heavier platter design, and can also help mitigate the audible effects of a slightly warped record.
While not every turntable setup benefits equally, for many vinyl enthusiasts a quality record weight or clamp offers a genuinely worthwhile, low-cost upgrade to overall playback stability and sound quality.
