Perfect Creation
The all-new M series marks a milestone for Matrix Audio as the brand advances towards traditional hi-fi systems. The series includes the MS-1 music streamer, MP-1 preamplifier and MA-1 power amplifier, forming a complete Matrix Audio flagship system that reflects the brand’s understanding of hi-fi audio. The M series is the first range to adopt the new Matrix Design language, offering a preview of the future evolution of Matrix Audio products.
Matrix Design
Evaluating audio products through both listening and visual appreciation has always been central to Matrix Audio’s philosophy. From concept to design, every step reflects the brand’s love of music and pursuit of beauty. The MA-1 is Matrix Audio’s first Class AB power amplifier. Its industrial design expresses the brand’s vision of simplicity, with hundreds of circular perforations of varying sizes and depths arranged across a clean hexahedral form, resembling rhythmic beats dancing across the surface.
Complement Each Other
The power amplifier forms the backbone of the audio system and must deliver comprehensive performance in both dynamic and nuanced passages. It should provide commanding power during intense moments while revealing subtle details with finesse. The MA-1 is designed for the MS-1 and MP-1, with precise matching and tuning that help the complete system deliver exceptional audio performance and a refined user experience.
Multi-triode In Parallel Push-pull Output
To reduce output impedance, Matrix Audio uses ten high-power ONSEMI transistors in each channel to create a push-pull amplification circuit operating at a high bias current. Static power consumption reaches 300 W. The amplifier delivers 250 W per channel into an 8-ohm load and 450 W per channel into a 4-ohm load.
Stereo Mode
In stereo mode, the amplification units handle the left and right channels separately, allowing every note to be reproduced precisely across the stereo soundstage.
Bridged Mode
Bridging two power amplifiers releases greater power for music, allowing even loudspeakers with demanding power requirements or low sensitivity to be driven effortlessly.
Mono Mode
In mono mode, two amplifiers work together for each channel to pursue even higher sound quality. This provides an advanced drive configuration for high-end separate loudspeakers or bi-wired loudspeakers, unlocking their performance potential.
Adjustable Gain
The amplifier offers two gain levels. Normal gain is +30 dB and can be attenuated to +24 dB, allowing the MA-1 to be matched with different preamplifiers and loudspeakers.
Surging Power
Independent transformers for the left and right channels create a fully independent dual-channel design with a total power supply capacity of 1,250 VA. The main supply operates at ±80 V. Each channel features fourteen 6,800 µF capacitors connected in parallel to form the main power-supply filtering array, giving a combined capacity of 190,000 µF across both channels. Compared with a single capacitor of the same capacity, multiple capacitors connected in parallel offer lower equivalent series resistance, providing greater flexibility when handling high-current output.
Craftsmanship
The H-shaped structure is a unique Matrix Audio design created for the M series and refined through two years of continuous optimisation and improvement across mechanical relationships, circuit layout and exterior appearance. After dozens of processes, the 20 mm CNC-machined aluminium plate becomes the support structure for the entire device and forms the core of the H-shaped design. All components are mounted on this plate, while heavy-duty feet fitted to the main beam support the full weight of the unit, making it solid and stable. Once the panels are installed, the main beam creates multiple isolated cavities. Different circuit modules are positioned within each cavity to reduce interference effectively. The left- and right-channel circuit modules are arranged symmetrically on either side, creating a balanced visual impression.
Silent Cooling
Two sensors on the main heatsink allow the MCU to monitor temperature continuously. When the temperature exceeds the preset threshold, a 7.4-inch ultra-quiet fan starts automatically and adjusts its speed dynamically. The fan remains almost inaudible even when the device is playing at low volume or is muted. An isolated air-duct design keeps electronic components out of the airflow path, helping to prevent dust accumulation during long-term operation.
