MD-1P
Minimalism
The MD-1P is a meticulously crafted Matrix Audio power amplifier that combines a music streamer and power amplifier in a single device, supported by a comprehensive streaming ecosystem. With one unit and a pair of passive loudspeakers, listeners can create a high-quality hi-fi system without the complexity of a traditional set-up, providing a convenient solution for seamless home audio.
Exceptional Sound & Efficiency
The MD-1P delivers outstanding power output. The MD-1P offers 300 W per channel into 8 ohms. Both bookshelf and floor-standing loudspeakers can be driven effortlessly. Using high-efficiency amplification technology, the amplifier achieves strong power output with lower energy consumption and reduced heat generation. Advanced PWM signal-processing technology minimises audio-signal distortion, ensuring pure, detailed and accurate sound reproduction that meets the exacting requirements of audiophiles.
Dual-Speaker Output Lossless Connection
Matrix Audio’s custom-designed, gold-plated solid-copper loudspeaker terminals provide lower resistance and a secure grip on loudspeaker cables, helping to preserve every detail of the audio signal. The MD-1P adds a second pair of terminals, allowing two pairs of loudspeakers to be connected simultaneously. Listeners can switch between them easily using the infrared remote control for quick A/B comparisons and a more convenient hi-fi experience.
FPGA & Femtosecond Clock
The digital audio-processing section features a dual femtosecond-clock architecture, with two Matrix Audio custom-designed femtosecond clocks providing precise reference signals for 44.1 kHz, 48 kHz and their multiples. Combined with a high-speed FPGA implementing Matrix Audio’s clock-division and jitter-reduction algorithms, the design minimises phase jitter and improves audio-data accuracy, resulting in an open, airy sound.
Precision Preamp Volume Control
The 256-step, high-precision digitally controlled analogue preamplifier volume system avoids the sound degradation caused by mechanical wear in traditional potentiometers. It supports fine adjustment from −80 dB to +12 dB in 0.5 dB steps and uses advanced algorithms to optimise the voltage-output curve, ensuring precise phase synchronisation between the left and right channels and preserving soundstage integrity even at low volumes. A 12-step channel-balance control also allows fine adjustment for loudspeaker placement and the listening environment.
Preamp & Subwoofer Output
Preamplifier and subwoofer outputs with synchronised volume control allow seamless integration with external power amplifiers. The low-frequency output delivers audio signals below 150 Hz, making it easier to connect an active subwoofer and extend the lowest frequencies. The MD-1P adds dual low-frequency outputs for larger listening spaces that require two subwoofers. A trigger interface also synchronises power with active subwoofers, removing the need for manual switching and improving convenience.
Phono Input
Matrix Audio has equipped the MD-1P with an MM phono preamplifier featuring a finely tuned, low-noise RIAA curve. A turntable can be connected directly to create a complete vinyl playback system, giving listeners a convenient way to enjoy the distinctive musical character of records.
Line Input
Equipped with balanced XLR and unbalanced RCA line inputs, the MD-1P is compatible with almost all audio devices featuring analogue outputs. Professional studio equipment and common home-audio devices can be integrated easily. The input can also be set to Bypass mode, allowing the unit to function as a dedicated power amplifier. This flexibility improves compatibility with multichannel AV systems, making the amplifier suitable for both hi-fi music listening and home-cinema applications.
Comprehensive Digital Connectivity
With up to four optical and coaxial inputs, the MD-1P can accommodate multiple devices in a home-entertainment system, including set-top boxes, games consoles and Blu-ray players. The HDMI ARC interface enables high-quality audio transmission from a television, while the USB Audio input supports seamless computer playback. Music from both television and computer sources can therefore be enjoyed through a high-fidelity sound system.
HD Bluetooth
When high-resolution network streaming is not practical, the MD-1P also provides HD Bluetooth playback. Bluetooth 5.0 supports audio transmission up to 96 kHz and a range of high-quality codecs, including aptX, aptX HD, AAC, SBC and LDAC. This helps streamed audio retain excellent detail and overall listening quality, allowing listeners to enjoy high-fidelity music with greater flexibility.
Seamless Network Connectivity
Gigabit Ethernet provides the most stable connection for high-sampling-rate PCM and DSD audio. Where network cabling is impractical, Wi-Fi 6 offers a simple and reliable alternative, allowing listeners to enjoy high-quality audio without a wired connection.
Shareable Internal Storage
An NVMe SSD slot on the underside of the chassis allows straightforward installation of internal storage. A dedicated ultra-low-noise power supply provides a quiet operating environment for the SSD, distinguishing the design from a conventional computer. Using the SMB protocol, computers on the same network can access the device’s storage for simple music-library management. The device can also function as a NAS, allowing other streamers on the network to play the stored music seamlessly.
Digital Management
By connecting a USB CD drive and using the MA Remote app, listeners can convert CD albums into digital audio files and save them to the device’s internal storage. This creates digital copies of valued CDs, combining their sound quality with the flexible library management of a music streamer. Listeners can retain the familiar experience of CD playback while gaining the convenience of digital storage and access.
