MS-1c
A New Source
As the newest entry-level model in Matrix Audio’s flagship M Series, the MS-1c is a premium pure-audio source designed for audiophiles, with sound quality as its highest priority. Powered by Matrix Audio’s in-house, Linux-based MA Player hi-fi streamer operating system, the MS-1c inherits the M Series’ meticulous hardware design and philosophy of harmonising exceptional aesthetics with superior sound quality.
The MS-1c integrates both analogue and digital outputs. Its built-in high-quality DAC delivers refined detail and a warm, musical character, while support for an external DAC provides greater flexibility. It is an ideal choice for newcomers exploring high-quality digital sources, as well as experienced listeners looking to upgrade their systems or discover streaming audio.
Exceptional Sound
Built on Matrix Audio’s signature high-resolution digital architecture, the MS-1c incorporates an analogue-inspired tonal philosophy. Its analogue stage features renowned Swedish LUNDAHL precision audio transformers for signal coupling, delivering a warm, smooth and full-bodied sound. The result is a richly detailed yet fatigue-free listening experience.
Flagship DAC Core
The MS-1c is equipped with the flagship AKM VELVETSOUND™ DAC solution, combining the AK4191 and AK4499EX chips. It supports PCM up to 32-bit/768 kHz and DSD up to 1-bit/24.58 MHz, achieving a dynamic range of up to 125 dB, an extremely high signal-to-noise ratio and an exceptionally low noise floor. It combines high resolution with analogue-like musicality, reproducing even the finest musical details with ease.
Greater Precision
The MS-1c employs a dual femtosecond-clock architecture. Two custom femtosecond clocks provide reference signals for sampling rates based on 44.1 kHz and 48 kHz. Combined with a high-speed FPGA featuring frequency-division and jitter-reduction algorithms, this design significantly minimises phase noise and improves data-reconstruction accuracy, resulting in greater airiness and texture.
Dual Analogue Outputs
The MS-1c features both balanced XLR and unbalanced RCA analogue outputs, with two selectable output-level settings. Listeners can match the output level to the input sensitivity of a power amplifier or active loudspeakers, ensuring an optimal gain structure and avoiding distortion or loss of dynamic range. It also offers high-precision digital volume control with 100-step attenuation, allowing direct connection to a power amplifier or active loudspeakers.
Intelligent Control
MA Player is built on the same hi-fi streaming hardware platform as the MS-1 and is powered by Matrix Audio’s MA Player hi-fi streamer operating system.
The fully compatible MA Remote app for iOS, iPadOS and Android provides smooth, intuitive control at the listener’s fingertips.
Vast Music Resources
The MS-1c integrates an extensive range of high-resolution streaming services, including Apple Music, TIDAL, Qobuz, HIGHRESAUDIO and internet radio.
It supports a wide range of protocols, including Roon Ready, Audirvāna, TIDAL Connect, Qobuz Connect, Spotify Connect, AirPlay 2, UPnP/DLNA and NAA.
The device can build local libraries from an internal SSD, USB storage or a NAS, and can even stream music directly from Dropbox. With extensive content access and broad protocol support, the MS-1c is a powerful and versatile audio source.
CD Ripping & Playback
By connecting an external USB CD drive, listeners can play CDs and easily rip them to digital files. This creates digital copies of valued discs, combining CD sound quality with the flexible library management of a music streamer. Listeners can retain the familiar ritual of CD playback while overcoming the limitations of physical media, with music available through the MS-1c whenever required.
Flexible Storage Expansion
An NVMe SSD slot on the underside of the chassis allows straightforward storage expansion. A specially designed, ultra-low-noise independent power supply provides a clean operating environment for the SSD, offering a significant advantage over conventional computer implementations. The internal storage is accessible over the local network, simplifying library management. The device can also function as a NAS, serving music to other streamers on the network.
Seamless Networking
The MS-1c supports both wired Ethernet and Wi-Fi 6 connectivity. Gigabit Ethernet offers the most stable performance for high-resolution PCM and DSD playback. Where cabling is impractical, Wi-Fi 6 provides a flexible and convenient alternative for high-quality streaming.
Robust Power Design
The MS-1c features a carefully engineered power architecture with separate supplies for its digital and analogue circuits. A dedicated linear power supply for the analogue stages, combined with multiple LDO regulators, minimises ripple and noise, ensuring a clean and stable power foundation for superior sound performance.
Stable Construction
The MS-1c is equipped with the MA-DAMPER STD isolation damper, co-developed with Audio Bastion. Its internal silicone damping structure absorbs external vibrations effectively, providing stable support and enhancing sonic accuracy.
True to the Music
The MS-1c combines sonic excellence with refined design, featuring a CNC-machined aluminium chassis that reflects Matrix Audio’s signature aesthetic. Through meticulous attention to both sound performance and appearance, the product remains true to the essence of hi-fi and the brand’s pursuit of authentic musical expression.
