Matrix Audio proudly presents the SC-1, its first clock source product, meticulously designed for streamers, DACs and CD players equipped with synchronised reference clock inputs. With outstanding performance, the SC-1 enhances the audio system, unlocking a new level of sound quality.
Precision OCXO at the Core
At the heart of the SC-1 lies Matrix Audio's custom-made OCXO (Oven-Controlled Crystal Oscillator) module, which uses an SC-cut crystal. Although this cutting process is highly complex, it enables the clock module to deliver superior phase noise and ageing characteristics. Precise temperature control within the oven chamber maintains a highly stable operating environment for the crystal, effectively minimising the impact of ambient temperature fluctuations on phase noise and jitter.
Four Independent Buffers | Synchronised Clock Outputs
The SC-1 features four independent buffered clock outputs, all derived from the same source. Each output has its own buffering circuit, ensuring synchronised signals alongside stable output impedance and excellent drive capability. Whether using a single output or multiple outputs simultaneously, the SC-1 delivers precise and stable performance to meet a range of system requirements.
Ultra-Low Phase Noise
In a clock source device, output noise is closely related to the internal OCXO clock module. However, the actual output noise differs from that of the OCXO itself, as the output buffering circuit introduces some performance loss. As a result, measuring phase noise at the device's output ports provides a more practical indication of performance. Thanks to its carefully engineered design, the SC-1 achieves ultra-low phase noise of better than -118 dBc at a 1 Hz offset at the clock output ports, delivering purer, more stable clock signals.
Clear Status Indication
The SC-1's front panel features a warm-up status LED. The indicator flashes while the oven chamber is warming up and remains steadily illuminated once the process is complete. This simple, intuitive design makes it easy to check the device's operating status at a glance.
Customisable Output Waveforms
The SC-1 offers two output waveform options, sine wave and square wave, to accommodate different equipment requirements. Square wave output is particularly recommended, as it provides greater locking accuracy than sine wave output, helping connected devices achieve a more precise clock signal.
Consistent Performance
Despite the SC-1's precise clock system, slight drift or deviation over time is inevitable. To address this, Matrix Audio has incorporated a 1PPS reference signal input on the rear panel. When connected to an external one-pulse-per-second reference signal source, the device automatically performs calibration, with the status indicated by the front-panel LED. Matrix Audio also offers free calibration services to help maintain the device's accuracy.
CBVB | Vibration Absorption System
The SC-1 is equipped with Matrix Audio's CBVB vibration-absorbing feet, which help isolate external vibrations, minimise interference and maintain stable operating conditions for the clock. This supports the delivery of clean, stable audio clock signals for an enhanced listening experience.
Automatic Linear Power Supply
The SC-1 features an advanced linear power supply with automatic voltage detection. Its sensitive voltage detection system enables precise transformer winding switching according to the input voltage. Overvoltage and undervoltage protection provide additional safeguards for stable operation. In addition, separate multi-stage regulator supplies independently power the oven control circuit and the clock circuit, effectively preventing fluctuations in the oven chamber's power supply from interfering with the clock circuit. This carefully considered design helps maintain excellent clock signal quality.
