SVS Sound was founded in 1998 in a garage in Youngstown, Ohio, by a team of audio engineers who shared a common frustration: the subwoofers on the market at the time felt overpriced and underwhelming for what they actually delivered. Rather than accept that trade-off, the founders set out to build genuinely high-performance subwoofers and sell them directly to consumers online, cutting out the traditional retail markups that inflated prices without necessarily improving quality.

That direct-to-consumer model, combined with rigorous engineering and real-world testing, quickly established SVS as a serious disruptive force in affordable performance audio. Subwoofers remain the company's cornerstone, spanning five dedicated product lines from the accessible 1000 Series to the reference-grade Ultra Series, though SVS has since expanded into full-range speakers, wireless audio, and cables as well.
